Spring thaw: spaghnum moss and shabby chic

Zombie Roland is a regular fixture at Toronto feeding frenzies, easily recognizable due to his exposed facial muscles and blue skin. (This tinge is likely due to cyanosis prior to death. He appears to have been frozen at intervals and exposed to extreme weather conditions over time- both hazards associated with Canadian zombiedom.) Here he is seen at an intermediate stage of decay.

Field Test

Lester Calleja of HeroicMelon reads Max Brooks’ Zombie Survival Guide in an alley while zombies stream past. Clearly it works: he survived miraculously unscathed, with only his autographed copy of the book for protection. More video of his random antics can be found here.

Gonzo never dies (aka Bat Country)

HST: the zombie I've been wanting to see for years. It’s reassuring to know that he’s still out there in some form, drinking whiskey and playing shotgun golf. I so missed his presence in the world.

After thanking him for posing I asked about the yellowish fluid he was drinking.

"Embalming fluid," he hedged, taking another hit of his cup.

My mother is of the opinion that these are the blue blooded zombies of former King Edward and Wallis Simpson, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. I can't find similar reference images of them in life, but I won't argue with such well dressed ghouls.

Queen of the Toronto undead scene

No scoop of Toronto zombie street fashion would be complete without a tip of the cranium to Thea "Munster" Faulds. Thea was the organizer of the original Toronto Zombiewalk circa 2003 and arguably one of the biggest braindrivers behind the infection... I mean phenomenon. Every year has seen her little horde swell- from 6 to over 5000. These days the horde is so big it needs a permit and dedicated wrangler squad. Thea and her crew are still co-ordinating it. We owe them a debt of thanks and brains.

Rob & Christine, a nice Canadian Couple

I always said that if I were to ever start a “Zombie Sartorialist” site, I'd have to begin with this charming couple. I spotted them one day in the Annex, picking off passerby.

Rob works the gingham and candystripes while Christine perfectly resurrects a 1970s housewife print.
